As you know, I have been taking photography classes and practicing on family quite a bit. I have had a few requests from friends for pictures lately. I think that it's something I'm fairly good at and with more practice, can be great at. So... I thought it would be a good idea to hold some little mini sessions for those who wanted pictures but wanted a good deal because after this, I'm upping my prices a bit. I spend HOURS traveling, at the photo shoot, sorting through pictures and editing.

SO! If you, or anyone you know is interested.. those are the dates I will be doing this in STG and Emery County. STG Locations - Main Street and possibly a location in Washington fields or something. In Emery, still thinking about locations. I'm also doing it, in October in SLC... I have another ad for that, it's basically the same.. I'll post it later.

I made this cute banner for a baby shower. It was my first attempt and i love it! The letters are black glitter... that took some time, but it was so cute. I even sewed on the ribbon with a cute wavy stitch. It has some great details and I really hope it gets hung in the nursery!!

Here is the first of many before and afters I have been working on this weekend. I bought this vase at a garage sale for $0.50. It didn't look like much.. it needed some cleaning but the shape was beautiful.

This was such an easy project. I have quite a few pints of paint I got for free.. I picked a color I liked, poured it inside and made sure to cover every inch.. There are quite a few of different tutorials out there for projects like this but I used this one.

So I plan to head on over to my local DI to pick up some more glass vases to add to this collection.

Pleated Skirt

This skirt by EmersonMade is so lovely. Dont you love the length and the pockets?! I've been skirt shopping lately and everything is so mini..
I need something slightly more modest and when I saw this I feel in love.

I imagined I could make it cheaper than the $158.00 they are charging for the skirt,
besides, I think it's sold out!
So I set out in to the world of the web and found this pattern:

It's fairly similar, with the pleats and the pockets.. tweak it hear and there (minor.. I can barley follow a clothing pattern let alone create changes myslef!) and the right fabric.. I'm looking at $50 for a skirt I'd love! Sure, time is money, but it's also a learning experience and theraputic.

I just need to add it to the list because I've got painting projects and pillows a few spots a head.

Remember this adorable pattern i wanted to buy so badly? Well I got it, and I love it. it wasn't as simple as I thought it was going to be. Theres a lot of tiny detail in it that takes skills. Skills I'm still working on. But the fabric is adorable and if you don't have the proper eye, you'd never notice the little tuck here or there.

Do you love it? I love it.

Here are the onsies I made to go with. I'm a big lazy slacker and only took pictures with my phone, so they're not the best quality, but get the point across. I hope Darling baby girls chew on the trunk and slobber all over these.

It would make me so happy.

Dutch doors are one of my newest obsessions. When we build a home, there is a check list of things I have to have (take note husband):

Chesterfield sofa (preferably yellow)
major windows with wooden frames
a kitchen large enough to dance in
high base boards
free standing claw-foot tub

Next on that list is a dutch door from my kitchen to my back yard.

This logo look familiar? It's the Bahamas logo with a little twist. I remember seeing this all over the place on my honeymoon and thought it was so neat.

She's the one who sparked my interest in stamp carving. I mean, check out some that she has done. Inspiring, right?! The other week I was thinking of carving an octopus but couldn't find anything I liked on the web to get ideas from.. but look here!

I wish I would have known about the awesome tutorials that were available online years ago when I was a bead freak. I basically spent all my extra cash on beads.. nice beads, cheap beads.. didn't matter.. I made necklaces galore! I even had some boutiques to sell them.. Made some good money.

But if I had known about the lovely people who would help me out with doing even more fabulous things I seriously would have loved life.

Martha Stewart, we all know her, shared this tutorial on the Crafts Dept. Blog.

They beads are pretty and they way they arrange them really doesn't look so difficult.

Now that I get to thinking.. I still have PLENTY of beads.. I'm going to look up more tutorials. I have a thick beaded bracelet that needs to be fixed and I have never known the right way to string the beads to create the right shape..

Thank goodness for the Internet right?

I have just been inspired.

Heather Bailey posted this adorable new pattern in her shop.
I love HB. Shes amazing. Her blog is beautiful. I could spend hours.

They are pin cushion patterns but HB also said they would make great toys. So I got thinking.. what great little gifts for a baby shower. Perfect for girls or boys depending on the fabric you used. Then my brain ticked a little more and I thought, bath toys! How cute would they be made out of washcloth material and filled with some type of sponge! Maybe even add a little pocket for the bar of soap or turn the tail into a loop so it can hang up to try afterward. I'm sure any baby would love this cute elephant scrubbing their back.

Like I said before, I was inspired.
Time to get sewing!

handmade holiday review

This is the idea that inspired my handmade Christmas idea. This Sofa Caddy, idea is from Sew4home. They have SO many ideas and tutorials. I just love their website. Here is one of the 4 caddy's that I made for each of the men in my family.

my sister made these cute little "lemon love" tags for me to sew onto each of my projects.. aren't they "sew" cute?

For my nephews I made these little draw string bags. My mom helped me with the idea and my husband even helped make the rope strands for the straps. If you don't know how to make rope, you should call up my mom, she's a pro!

This is a simply and easy idea for any little kid. I love the matching monster fabric.

For my sister and sister-in-law I thought nothing would be better than fun hair accessories. I saw this way cute zipper headband idea on this blog here. I gathered zippers from my mom and her friend and even bought some off of Ebay. It's important that you use the metal zippers, not the plastic ones for this project. This is another project my husband helped out on. When we were trying to figure out how to fold the zipper for the bow, he said, "Let me, I'm an Engineer, I can figure this out." haha. So he did.. but then I figured a better way later on.

The feather accessories I just kind of figured out on my own. I bought feathers off of Etsy and just used buttons for the center. With lots of hot glue and felt, these beauties were created. The hardest part on this project was deciding what clip to use and which direction to face it!

This was not necessarily a last minute idea, even though it is so simple that it could be. I made this cute little neck pillow for my mom. This is another idea that I found from Sew4Home.. I told you they were awesome. So awesome that when I got to my moms house on the 23rd she already had 2 (TWO) of these given to her. Mine is so much better though.

Here is my version. My sister-in-law gave me a gift card to Heather Baileys online store last year for Christmas and I was so excited to buy fabric! I got 3 different styles of fabric and this is the first project I made from any of it. It's such lovely fabric I had to use it on the right project. I'm glad I saved it for this. The pillow is so bright and fun.

So that's all of it! 4 sofa caddy's, lots of hair accessories and 1 neck pillow.

Did I enjoy doing a handmade Christmas? Yes. Was it stressful? You bet! Will I do it again? Possibly.

It's best to think ahead. I bought the fabric and started sewing the sofa caddy's a week after thanksgiving. Then took a few weeks break because of school... so I basically did this all in a matter of 2 weeks. If I ever do it again, I will start at the beginning of November. It's not that fun to have a trashed apartment, with needles and thread strewn all over the place, just ask my husband. I bet he found 4 needles in places they shouldn't be.. the couch, the floor, the counter, even our bed! He wasn't so happy with any of those!!!

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and possibly found some ideas to spark your own creativity!

I have always wanted to invent a machine to hook up to my brain so the wonderful images I create could come through onto a screen. This picture is my dream nursery!! If I had that image machine this is exactly what would have come out! However, it would have included an antique pram in a corner. I am so incredibly thrilled I cam across this image. I want this nursery!

This is a complete 180 degree turn on nursery styles but I love this one in it's own way. The thing that caught my eye in this image was the letters on the wall. How clever. I love it.

It's that time of year again! St. George, Utah, Parade of Homes. One of my favorite times of the year. I went for a visit over the long weekend and all the girls in my family took time so see some amazing houses. Below are some of my favorites.

This first house was one of the multi million dollar houses. It was amazing. It had a basketball court, racket ball court, movie theater and the sweetest pool I have ever seen. The pool had caves that you could swim in and watch a tv inside. You could walk through the caves and it felt like a line at Disneyland.

One Open house we went to had this sweet little nursery room attached to the master sweet. It was the perfect little room for a baby, it's own space but still hooked on to the master room.

I loved the circle crib.

This soda/ice cream bar was adorable. Just off of the kitchen and perfect for parties. Such a clever idea for the family that entertains.

I loved this sewing room. The pattern pictures on the wall added a fun little touch.

The next 5 pictures were from house #18. I just loved the color scheme and the whole feel to the house. It was bold and classy.

One fun thing in my family is that we always test out the kitchen with a pirouette or two! If it's not big enough to practice our dance skills in, it's not big enough for us.

There were some very nice sized kitchens this year.. they must have brought in a few dancers to help determine the right size.

Don't you just love this dresser!? The design is buttons nailed into the wood. However, they were buttons without the holes.. just one hole for the nail. I don't know if they were really buttons but that's the best way to describe it. It was SO adorable.

This last picture was not even part of the Parade of Homes but it was our favorite part! This is such a darling house that all of us girls just fell in love with. We had to pull over to the side of the road to snap some pictures. As we were doing it the owner drove up and said he was going to have to charge us... then let us pull up closer to get better pictures. I Love this house.

Lupin from Bugs and Fishes makes these neat felt mobiles. She gave a how to tutorial on her blog for the butterfly one at the bottom.

I love the idea but I think I would alter the shape a bit. Thinking more of a Paisley shape rather than circles. They kind of remind me of fish eggs or something. eww.

I think the pictures above and below are adorable. What an easy way to add some color to a room, even small rooms! I love the picture below because it separates the room into 3 sections.. makes it look a like there is a level change.

Give me a backyard like this any day.

I have always wanted the type of house that is surrounded by a large rock wall that is covered in vines. There would be a fancy iron gate you would walk through to get into our house. Secret Garden type, after they brought it back to life. I love the look of the grass coming right up to the pool that doesn't look like a pool. It looks more like a fancy water feature or pond.

I want lots of bushes and trees, maybe even a willow tree, that block us out from the rest of the world.

I know I'm going to end up living in the wrong climate for a garden like yard but I can dream.

I'm starting a new label to this blog titled, "Don't forget" There are so many ideas that I come up with or find from others that I don't want to forget for the future. Most of the ideas on this blog have been home, craft, wedding or photography related. However, there are some great ideas that I want to do for my family and children in the future. This blog is to store ideas of all varieties!

Christmas Traditions (to start or keep):

new pj's
wrap 24 Christmas books and open one a night and read it as a family
bake something fun!
service project or 12 days of Christmas to a neighbor or someone in need.

Family ideas:

When we are driving on a trip, put together a little "Cash Cab" game for the kiddos. Age appropriate questions (religious, math, science, spelling..). Let them earn money to spend on the trip. Educational and fun!
Mom and Dad date night.
Sunday Journal writing. Orrins not a journal writer (but he rocks at love letters!). I think its important for the kids to do once they hit 8 or 12. They can write about whatever is happening in their lives, in whatever form they want. As long as they write.
Keep track of their growth on a door frame. When the kids are grown and its time to for a new door frame, take the old door frame and frame it on a wall.

In my church the there is an organization for the women called the Relief Society. The Relief Society women like to get together once a month and do something called, Super Saturday or Enrichment Night. During which they have a little lesson, good food and a craft or two and usually some sort of service project.

My mothers ward goes ALL out when it comes to the crafts. They always have something spectacular to sign up to make. When I saw this craft I had to have one. Its a towel rack, or coat rack, whatever you want it to be. In my case its a coat rack.

I have had the wood and piece for over a few months but never found the time to make it.

As I was cleaning out a hutch in my house I found these cards that I got for my Bridal Shower. The stripes are the same colors that are in the throw pillows in my living room. PERFECT!

A little spray paint and mod podge later, I have this beauty! Best of all, my rocking chair is no longer used for a coat rack.

I can't believe I haven't mentioned my awesome Christmas yet. My family rocks at the gift giving. Amongst the hard drive, the plane ticket to Kansas and the most beautiful decor for my Christmas tree (just wait until you see it next year!), my sister-in-law gave me something that applies here, on this blog. She wanted to get me something I would really like. So she did some research on this blog. Great place to research if you ever want to gift me!

I was blown away at Christmas. She got me everything I needed for my sprinkle rack. Right down to the sprinkles! It was such a surprise!

The past while I have seen SO many beautiful creations that people have made for Christmas or just because. I know how to sew but when it comes to Crocheting of knitting I have no clue! I used to finger weave when I was in elementary, but that's a sinch!

My husband knows how to crochet (hats) and I think its about time I learn! I was browsing around and found this beauty...

MyLyn called me up and asked if I would do some maternity pictures for her. Of course! I could never pass up such a beautiful model. She knew I was trying to build a portfolio and was patient and was so much fun to hang with for an hour.

I converted a lot of them to Black and White.. I love it. I think makes the pictures timeless and that's how it should be.

It was a learning experience. I was a little (ok, very) nervous because I wanted to do a good job. The light wasn't the best but I think we got some fabulous shots. Some of them have a little noise but I am taking a Photoshop class starting Saturday and I will quickly get that edited out the best I can. I am also taking a Photography class and that will teach me what settings are good for indoors so I do better next time!

Things to remember next time:

I bought the tri-pod for a reason... use it!

Take time to find the appropriate settings

Get a photo pass when shooting at the SLC Library, or just avoid the Children's level. : )

I was thinking that when I have a baby I am going to get "blessed" with a girl, only because I want a boy SO bad. In the case that it happens I have been thinking of other nursery ideas.

I am documenting this all so I don't forget it! Hence the point of this blog.

I love the birds and if I don't do that the whole theme they can be put to good use in my Fairy Tale/Nursery Rhyme room!

I love the idea of the Princess and the Pea bed.

This is something that could be darling in a crib. I want to purchase or make a sparkly chandelier to hang over the crib or in the center of the room. think Forever 21's crystal chandeliers they have all over the store. Use lots of toole to give it the princess feel

Isn't this beautiful? Its paper! The style of art is called quilling. I had never heard of it before but I think it is amazing. This would look so beautiful in a frame on the wall. I think I just might have to try it sometime. What a fun pass time.

I want these. All of them. However, they are too expensive for my budget. The cost of that chair is my monthly car payment. Too bad... its a beauty.

Also, I was thinking. About a year ago I was planning nursery themes (just because thats what I do. Nursery themes and baby names.. not that we were going to have a baby(right now)). I really want to do birds, bird cages and things that are beautiful and fly. Well, I got a bird cage for my birthday, started my bird mobile and have been storing ideas in my head. Come to find out, bird nursery's are all the rage. Seriously, I have been seeing them everywhere. Makes me not want to do it so much.. but I have the best ideas! So I am hoping by the time I have an offspring the hype will have died down.
Good thing I have some very classy back ups... they will require some antique shopping.. but I don't mind.

While we were away for the wedding my husband wanted to go shooting. We saw this little homeless boy out in the desert and let him shoot a few with us. He also let me take some pictures of him.

Well, here it is. The very first wedding cake I ever made. I ended up loving it. So did the bride and that is all that matters. This was a very special cake. The bride and groom had a luncheon before the ceremony and weren't planning on cutting the cake. So I didn't make a real cake. I tried to look for Styrofoam but ran out of patience when I couldn't find any. My dear husband remembered an I idea we had heard, make it out of rice crispy treats. So I did.
2 large boxes of rice crispies and 3 bags of marshmallows later, i had my foundation.I forgot/didn't have time to frost it with butter cream first. So its a little bumpy, but nothing too bad. Rolling the fondant that large was harder than I expected, but I did it! I had all the flowers and black circles pre made and just sort of winged it!

Wedding Time! Here are some pictures of the wedding that took place this weekend. It was an absolute blast and so beautiful. Enjoy.

My mother-in-laws good friend saw the pictures I took that were used from the announcements and loved them. She called yesterday to see when I would be in town and if I would take their family pictures.

I haven't had much time to post.. or much time to find things to post about lately.

I found this picture of this fabulous kitchen last week and have had it on my desk top since then, waiting to find time to post it. I have forgotten where I found it but I am almost certain that its Design Sponge. I LOVE the feel of this kitchen. It's so cozy, yet functional. I would totally put some red bar stools up to match. I think that would just add so much.

I am photographing my sister-in-laws wedding on Friday! I am also making her cake (surprises on that one.. won't be your everyday cake) Wish me luck with it all. I am pretty nervous, but confident enough that I can pull it all off. I rented a lens online from the Lens Depot. They were quick and efficient. Very reasonable prices as well. I can't wait to try it out and see what I can do.

This is such a cute idea for any kids room or baby's nursery! It would be fun to do a hand print of Mom and Dad on either side with both prints of the kid in the middle and arrange it in a straight line. What a fun an easy project!

Mylyn, at Myla Rose, has tagged me once again! I guess I do the same tag she did... “6 very quirky, very boring details about myself”. This again came at a very perfect time. SO bored at work today.

1. I once heard that rapists go after women who are subtle or shy. They type that wouldn't put up a fight. Ever since I heard that I always made it a point to walk with my head up and "act" like I knew where I was going to what I was doing.

2. If I am in a public restroom I make it a point to get out of there before the other person (if they came in after me). I always feel so awkward. Its like, "I heard you pee. weird." Or if someone is in there before me and I leave before they do (as in they are still siting), I am as or more embarrassed as they should be.

3. I take up the whole bed. I need space for me knees and elbows.

4. I am a little terrified of elevators. I went on the ride, Tower or Terror a LONG time ago and it never bothered me until now. I guess its because the elevator in my building is old. It reminds me of that and I am just waiting for it to plummet to the ground.

5. I don't like running into people I know. Anywhere. Its weird and unplanned. I never know what to say and when I come up with what I want to say, I don't know how to end it and its awkward. I know its weird, but thats just the way it is.

6. I also don't like people showing up at my house unannounced. Like when your hanging out in your under ware in the front room and the doorbell rings. I have to run and put clothes on and answer the door and its usually someone trying to sell something. I don't usually mind if its someone I care for.... usually. ha.

I accept the tag but don't choose to continue it on to others. You can do it if you like, I will read it and laugh, but I'm not going to select anyone.

Similar to those emails people ask you to forward, "...if you have a good heart you will send this on. Thousands of emails with dirty jokes and crude behavior get sent ever day but when its an email about God or something good it doesn't get sent on." I don't mind if they are sent to me, I'm just not the type to do the sending.

I love this nursery. I love it. I found it via Pretty Little Things she found it via Whistle & Wink. I think the all white room with splotches of color is so neat. I am a firm believer that babies need lots of colors to look at to enhance their vision and such. However, I love the softness of this room. This is a great idea to do for my Bird themed Nursery when the time comes. I am still working on my bird mobile. When its finished it will be the perfect touch of color to go over a crib.
Also, I never thought I would be a fun of the flag banner that is hanging in the corner of the picture. However, the more I see them they more they grow on me. It would be fun to make one with the scraps of fabric from the pillows or the birds I am making. I could even stitch on the letters of the child on each flag. Or, stitch on a bird or critter silhouette on ever other flag.

I don't want to forget this house. I wish I had a colored printer right now so I could add these to my design binder in case the World Wide Web just quits on us one day.

I just LOVE this bathroom. The baby clue tile, and that TUB! I love tubs like that, however I would choose mine with clawed feet. I just can't get over the feel of those tubs. So much fun.

This is one I don't want to forget! A Design Inspiration Binder! I got the idea from Stephmodo.
Its such a good idea! She also has led me to the site where House Beautiful published 101 Easy Makovers. They are cheap too! Oh this is such a good idea. I printed out the 101 Easy Makovers to start out my binder!
Heres just a few things you can put in your binder:

paint samples
wall paper samples
magazine clippings
pictures from real houses or ideas (I did this at the Parade of Homes)
jot down any idea or inspiration that you have

You never want to forget that great idea. Thats why I started this blog. Documenting all this creative goodness I find. However, my inspirstion binder will be tangible and steered more towards home decore.

Last year my husband and I went to Phoenix for a job interview. While my husband was interviewing I went downtown and did a little browsing. I walked into this very nice home decore store. I saw these very cute pumpkins similar to the ones shown.

They were very classy and fun for fall decor. However, they ranged from $30 to $100 a piece. They were filled with rice or beans and very nice fabric. I decided rather than forking out money I didn't have to re-create them.

My uncle has a pumpkin patch so I set out with my mom and husband and we broke of all of their tops and picked the ones up that had been left on the ground. (It would be very easy to snag a few from the bottom or the barrels at the grocery store).

My mom decided she wanted to do this craft as well, so we picked out some fun fabrics and cut them out into different sizes of circles. Then we stitched around the edges and filled them with a little bit of beans for weight and plastic bags for the shape. Some of them were very big and we didn't have enough beans for them all, besides it's a good way to recycle your plastic bags! We pulled the stitching tight and hot glued the tops on. Thats it. Simple, cheap and you can use them for about 3 months of decoration.

When I was planning my wedding I was looking at all different types of flowers for my bouquet. I thought it would be so fun to get a giant leaf and wrap it around a small bundle of flowers. I wish I could draw out the picture in my mind for you but I can't, so use your imagination the best you can. You see the large leaves on bushes and they are more commonly found in tropical areas. It would be a fun little addition to a bouquet.

Going Green.....

It would be fun to use the flowers, or plants, that are below as a bouquet. Totally different, but fun. I have no idea what they are but the ones in the top picture are neat! You could take just one of those blossoms and use it for your bouquet. Add some ribbon and you saved yourself a bundle, plus its very unique!

I really like the ones in the next picture as well, they are a little smaller so you would need a bundle. Or you could arrange these in a formation around one of the plants above to add a different texture or shade of green. I doubt they have long stems but you could get creative!
